Remember the movie 'Castaway' with Tom Hanks? When he first gets to the island, hears a 'thud' several times and thinks it's an animal or someone dangerous? When Harrison and I saw that scene, we both looked at each other and said "it's a coconut falling!" We hear it all the time. So today when I came back and heard the 'THUD' outside my window, numerous times, I knew the sound was coconuts falling, but I knew something else was up. I go out on my lanai, and so, from our "only in Hawaii" file, we bring you Eric, our coconut tree trimmer, landscape guy, business owner, surfer, daredevil, husband, friend, and all around good guy! Eric is amazing. He and his gorgeous wife Ashley, moved here from Missouri almost 3 years ago, and have really done well. Ashley is getting her teaching credentials at the University of Hawaii, and Eric's business, Eco Landscape has grown by leaps and bounds. They are both really hard workers, and just as cute as can be. And they just bought their first home! We're very proud of these kids!

  1. Wow...that man trimming those coconuts is a hottie...haha...It's Ashley by the way:-) So nice to see you on here, it's been a while. You are such a great writer and sweet as can be. Thank you so much for all your kind words...we really appreciate you guys!! Life seems to be going by so fast these days but we are still enjoying our little life here on the Big Island!! Talk to you soon!

  2. I've never seen Castaway, but I am sure that if we had Gregg & I would have reacted the same way to the "mysterious sound" - the sound of falling coconuts IS quite distinctive LOL

I'll never forget how amazed I was the first time I saw someone shimmy right up a 50 foot palm! I was positively DIZZY with awe (heights are SO not my thing!)
